Co-hosts and long-distance friends Jennie and Sarah met on the playground of their children's Rhode Island pre-school. They instantly connected over their shared love of intentional parenting, dark-humor, esoteric cultural references, coffee, and their New England outsider status-since they were both recent transplants to the area. Life was busy and they didn't get nearly as much time as they'd like to get to know one another- although they knew they were totally each other's kind of wonderfully weird. It wasn't until life led them to move away from Rhode Island with their families to Texas and Florida- and then eventually Tennessee- respectively that they connected again over the phone during the pandemic.
They shared stories of the absurdities they experienced as mothers, creatives, and active community members and doled out advice in the form of media recommendations to one another during a time when screens were one of the only ways they could leave their four walls. They found respite in their weekly phone calls and learned that they both had educational backgrounds in film studies, an unquenchable thirst for meaningful conversations, and a deep appreciation for podcasts.
Through these weekly chats they turned their organic conversations about media and life into a purposeful podcast about life’s greatest cares and the movies that make the better- Screen Cares.
